Hugli (Hooghly) District - Population 2011-2024

An official Census 2011 detail of Hugli (Hooghly), a district of West Bengal has been released by Directorate of Census Operations in West Bengal. Enumeration of key persons was also done by census officials in Hugli District of West Bengal.

In 2011, Hugli had population of 5,519,145 of which male and female were 2,814,653 and 2,704,492 respectively. In 2001 census, Hugli had a population of 5,041,976 of which males were 2,589,625 and remaining 2,452,351 were females. Hugli District population constituted 6.05 percent of total Maharashtra population. In 2001 census, this figure for Hugli District was at 6.29 percent of Maharashtra population.

There was change of 9.46 percent in the population compared to population as per 2001. In the previous census of India 2001, Hugli District recorded increase of 15.77 percent to its population compared to 1991.


Hugli Literacy Rate

Average literacy rate of Hugli in 2011 were 81.80 compared to 81.80 of 2001. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy were 87.03 and 76.36 respectively. For 2001 census, same figures stood at 82.59 and 67.21 in Hugli District. Total literate in Hugli District were 4,078,388 of which male and female were 2,211,777 and 1,866,611 respectively. In 2001, Hugli District had 3,333,988 in its district.

Hugli Child Population

In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected for all districts including Hugli. There were total 533,210 children under age of 0-6 against 603,258 of 2001 census. Of total 533,210 male and female were 273,116 and 260,094 respectively. Child Sex Ratio as per census 2011 was 952 compared to 951 of census 2001.
