Leh District - Population 2011-2024

An official Census 2011 detail of Leh, a district of Jammu and Kashmir has been released by Directorate of Census Operations in Jammu and Kashmir. Enumeration of key persons was also done by census officials in Leh District of Jammu and Kashmir.

In 2011, Leh had population of 133,487 of which male and female were 78,971 and 54,516 respectively. In 2001 census, Leh had a population of 117,232 of which males were 64,306 and remaining 52,926 were females. Leh District population constituted 1.06 percent of total Maharashtra population. In 2001 census, this figure for Leh District was at 1.16 percent of Maharashtra population.

There was change of 13.87 percent in the population compared to population as per 2001. In the previous census of India 2001, Leh District recorded increase of 30.15 percent to its population compared to 1991.


Leh Literacy Rate

Average literacy rate of Leh in 2011 were 77.20 compared to 77.20 of 2001. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy were 86.31 and 63.56 respectively. For 2001 census, same figures stood at 75.55 and 52.70 in Leh District. Total literate in Leh District were 93,770 of which male and female were 62,834 and 30,936 respectively. In 2001, Leh District had 0 in its district.


Leh Sex Ratio

With regards to Sex Ratio in Leh, it stood at 690 per 1000 male compared to 2001 census figure of 823. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate. Leh Child Population

In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected for all districts including Leh. There were total 12,016 children under age of 0-6 against 12,016 of 2001 census. Of total 12,016 male and female were 6,174 and 5,842 respectively. Child Sex Ratio as per census 2011 was 946 compared to 946 of census 2001. In 2011, Children under 0-6 formed 9.00 percent of Leh District compared to 10.25 percent of 2001. There was net change of -1.25 percent in this compared to previous census of India.

Sex Ratio in urban region of Leh district is 494 as per 2011 census data. Similarly child sex ratio in Leh district was 989 in 2011 census. Child population (0-6) in urban region was 2,963 of which males and females were 1,490 and 1,473. This child population figure of Leh district is 4.88 % of total urban population. Average literacy rate in Leh district as per census 2011 is 86.59 % of which males and females are 92.09 % and 74.86 % literates respectively. In actual number 36,981 people are literate in urban region of which males and females are 26,772 and 10,209 respectively.
