In 2011, Sambalpur had population of 1,041,099 of which male and female were 526,877 and 514,222 respectively. In 2001 census, Sambalpur had a population of 935,613 of which males were 475,122 and remaining 460,491 were females. Sambalpur District population constituted 2.48 percent of total Maharashtra population. In 2001 census, this figure for Sambalpur District was at 2.54 percent of Maharashtra population.
